ACCO Brands Leverages Oracle Fusion Middleware to Automate Communication Between Applications

New SOA-Based System Integrates Applications and Increases System Performance by 400 Percent for ACCO Brands

Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 19, 2011

News Facts

ACCO Brands (NYSE: ABD), one of the world’s largest suppliers of branded office products, has selected Oracle products and technologies including, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle GlassFish Server, Oracle JDeveloper, the Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Transportation Management.
The ACCO Brands solution was built as part of an Oracle Transportation Management implementation with BPEL processes delivering Shipment/Confirmation information between the Oracle E-Business Suite and PicK ticket Management System (PKMS)/ Distribution Center Management System (DCMS).
ACCO used Oracle Fusion Middleware, specifically Oracle JDeveloper and Oracle BPEL Process Manager, a component of Oracle SOA Suite, to develop business processes to orchestrate across the Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Transportation Management and PKMS/DCMS applications. The Oracle-based interface processes approximately 1,100-1,800 invoices within a 24 hour period.
The design and development for the SOA-based BPEL interfaces was completed in approximately four months. The project was implemented at the three major distribution centers of ACCO Brands’ U.S. operations and provides benefits for more than 80 percent of all shipments from U.S. businesses.
By running Oracle BPEL Process Manager on top of Oracle WebLogic Server, ACCO Brands has been able to view a process flow that spanned greater than 70K steps. The new SOA-based interfaces between the Oracle E-Business Suite and PKMS in the ACCO Brands solution have performed 400 percent faster with 20 percent more workload.
ACCO Brands is also leveraging Oracle GlassFish Server for its online training site. Future functionality of the site will include the ability to e-mail preformatted key codes to customers and allow them to register for online training courses.
Oracle University training helped the ACCO Brands technical team gain new knowledge of SOA technology components and the Oracle Fusion Middleware tutorials on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) helped immensely with developing customizations in BPEL and stabilizing the system.

Supporting Quotes

“Oracle’s out-of-the-box integration between the Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Transportation Management was the biggest reason for us to choose Oracle Fusion Middleware,” said Royce Heaney, VP Global IT, ACCO Brands.
“Oracle JDeveloper is the most powerful IDE for SOA development and Oracle Fusion Middleware is definitely the easiest way to migrate to an extensible integration platform,” said Dheeraj Bhushan SOA & e-commerce team lead, ACCO Brands.

Oracle, The World's Largest Enterprise Software Company Press Release

Inova Health System Selects Oracle Health Sciences Solutions as the IT Foundation for Value-Based Personalized Healthcare Model

Informatics Infrastructure to Facilitate Information Sharing and Insight to Improve Care, Increase Operational Efficiency and Accelerate Research from Bench to Bedside

Redwood Shores, Calif. – Jan. 18, 2011

News Facts

Inova Health System, a leading, Northern Virginia-based, not-for-profit healthcare provider network serving more than one million people annually, has selected a suite of Oracle Health Sciences interoperability and analytics products as the informatics foundation for a value-based, personalized healthcare model to improve the quality of care for its patients.
Inova Health System will use an integrated suite of Oracle solutions including Oracle® Healthcare Transaction Base, Oracle Healthcare Master Person Index, Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters, and several components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, including Oracle WebLogic Suite 11g and Oracle SOA Suite 11g to create a data services hub that links patient information through a secure and interoperable informatics infrastructure across operational, clinical care and research domains.
The new informatics environment will break down health data silos to deliver actionable insight that can help Inova Health System drive continuous improvement in quality of care and operational efficiency. It will also help to unlock the value of data captured in disparate healthcare transactional systems for secondary uses that accelerate research and yield new clinical and translational insight.
As part of its informatics initiative, Inova will use the Oracle Health Sciences solution to help the region’s 4,000 affiliated physicians achieve meaningful use of healthcare IT, as well as move toward an Accountable Care model – a critical requirement as healthcare reform is implemented and pay-for-performance and similar initiatives become more widespread.
Additionally, Inova plans to use its informatics infrastructure to support new research and care programs that advance personalized medicine, taking advantage of the great strides in molecular understanding of disease since the mapping of the human genome.
The new infrastructure will also help enable personalized care management programs within the community to help prevent disease before it strikes.

Supporting Quotes

“Inova and Oracle share a vision for the future of healthcare and the information technology solutions required to deliver the highest quality care,” said Knox Singleton, Chief Executive Officer, Inova Health System. “We are investing in a new model for value-based, personalized healthcare – built around a robust, secure and interoperable informatics infrastructure – enabling Inova to continuously improve patient care and operating efficiency by delivering greater value and empowerment to our affiliated community physicians.”
“We are on the verge of a new era in healthcare where advances in our molecular understanding of disease coupled with adoption of health information technology can bring personalized, predictive medicine to all patients,” said Dr. John Niederhuber, Executive Vice President, Inova Health System. “However, today’s electronic medical records systems were not designed to support this new paradigm of research and care. We are pleased to team with Oracle Health Sciences to make our vision of the future of healthcare a reality for Inova’s patients, physicians and community.”
Dr. Niederhuber joined Inova in September, 2010 after serving as the director of the National Cancer Institute and is viewed as one of the nation’s premier oncologists and clinical researchers.
“The future of healthcare will be characterized by a more personalized, predictive, participatory care environment where scientific advances are integrated with new delivery models to improve population and individualized health,” said Neil de Crescenzo, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Health Sciences. “Forward-looking organizations, such as Inova Health System, understand that achieving this transformation will require new business models, as well as informatics infrastructures that go beyond today’s transactional systems. Oracle Health Sciences is pleased to support Inova with solutions that help enable interoperability and provide the analytics to offer insights across the operational, clinical, and research domains.”

Corporación Digitel Reduces Time of Bill Delivery by 90 Percent with Oracle Self-Service and E-Billing

Oracle Press Release

Corporación Digitel Reduces Time of Bill Delivery by 90 Percent with Oracle Self-Service and E-Billing

Cost reduction and reduced delivery times cited as key benefits; Customers have quick and secure access to information

Redwood Shores, CA – January 17, 2011

News Facts

Corporación Digitel CA, a telecommunications company offering mobile and public internet services in Venezuela, has selected Oracle Self-Service E-Billing version 5.1 for electronic customer invoicing.
This effort is part of an initiative to comply with the country’s new tax requirements in record time by reducing the delivery time of customer invoices by 90 percent. Additionally, this deployment results in eco-efficient management.
In recent years, Digitel has experienced steady growth and currently has 6.5 million customers. With rapid business growth and increased customer needs, the corporation faced the challenge of delivering fast and timely billing to its customer base and to achieve the optimization of human and financial resources, by removing physical invoices.
Additionally, Digitel had to comply with legal and local regulations, required by the executing agency for the national tax authorities of the Treasury in the country: the National Integrated Customs and Tax Administration (SENIAT). This regulator requires invoicing physical or digital characteristics and very specific data. The solution has the flexibility to adapt to the required tax documentation and has the legal validity required by the SENIAT.

Supporting Details

The paper invoice, plus costs associated with printing and distribution of it, involved a large investment in time and money. Additionally, Digitel considered the problems of security and privacy of customer information.
Now, with the implementation of the Oracle E-Billing solution in the telecommunications company, customers can access their bills online within 48 hours. This result represents a reduced processing time of more than 90%, while ensuring the protection of customers’ personal information.
Beyond being a tool for presentation of specific file formats on the Web, Oracle Self-Service and E-Billing offers great potential because it allows the user to access more information. The customer can structure their accounts, viewing from various angles, distribute and analyze them as desired with one simple solution.
As a result of this deployment, Corporación Digitel CA has confirmed that customers are very receptive to these upgrades to their invoices and perceive the company as making positive changes. Notably, the Web format is identical to the physical bill customers previously received, so there is complete familiarity. New features that allow the customer to go directly to the invoice number, filter information and download any tool such as Excel or PDF documents. Reading is easy and portable as it can be archived, and is eco-efficient and practical.
In addition to complying with regulations, required by SENIAT, Oracle E-Billing facilitates a self-service strategy. This innovation has resulted in the reduction of 85% of the cost per print of the bill, as well as the time reduction in the availability of information to customers. The impact on collection management has been significant.
The implementation of the solution was carried out by Celeritech, partner of Oracle, and was completed in less than a year

Supporting Quotes

"I think the best parts of this tool are yet to be seen," said Rafael Rey, vice president of Corporación Digitel CA Systems. "This implementation opens a world of infinite possibilities. Now, other than responding to the challenges we face as a business, we can take this opportunity to develop new ways of interacting with customers."
"Oracle Self-Service and E-Billing is the online billing solution most widely adopted in the market. It allows companies to take the billing function to another level, from simple transactions to meaningful relationships,” says Rubén Chacón, General Manager of Oracle Venezuela. "This translates into increased customer loyalty, while improving profitability and eco-management," he said.

Headquartered in San Leandro, Calif., TriNet enables small companies to strategically and cost-effectively outsource the complex management of human resources, employee benefits, payroll and other HR related services.
As the company expanded through merger and acquisition, TriNet sought to improve its financial reporting processes and analyses, and gain a real-time view into financial performance.

Integrate key data across the enterprise;
Improve financial process efficiency, transparency and visibility;

Establish an agile financial reporting foundation that can scale to support future company growth.

Building a Proven Practice Approach to Improve Financial Analysis and Reporting

To address all the data analysis needs of its internal stakeholders, TriNet created an internal Business Intelligence (BI) and Performance Management (PM) team that gathered individuals from IT and Finance business functions to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing use of BI and EPM technologies.
Partnering with interRel, a Platinum level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), the team implemented Oracle Essbase on time and under budget in just two months.
Users were trained in a matter of weeks and are now able to produce their own custom reports – regardless of their prior knowledge of the system.
With Oracle Essbase, TriNet has a common foundation to implement, manage and analyze financial and operational data from numerous internal systems, including Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise, the Oracle E-Business Suite, a data warehouse using Oracle Database, Microsoft Access and third-party reporting tools, providing end-to-end visibility into key performance metrics across the enterprise.
For example, Oracle Essbase has also allowed TriNet to run sophisticated product Profit and Loss (P&L) analysis to better view customer profitability and employee performance; a level of data collection and analysis that was not possible in the past.
Oracle Essbase has given the team true agility to capture data and deliver analytics as business evolves. With sub week developments, Finance can rapidly get the business insight it needs.

Oracle Press Release

Banca Transilvania Selects Oracle FLEXCUBE Universal Banking to Support Rapid Growth through Innovative Products and Faster Service Provision

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – Jan. 11, 2011

News Facts

Oracle today announced that Banca Transilvania, has selected Oracle FLEXCUBE Universal Banking System (UBS) to support double-digit operational growth each year while sustaining profitability.
Banca Transilvania is one of Romania’s top five banks, with four main business lines: retail banking, SME banking, corporate banking and healthcare division. Oracle’s FLEXCUBE UBS solution supports all of these business lines.
In order to meet its present and future requirements as a growing financial institution, Banca Transilvania needed an integrated, efficient, cost-effective, and modern international banking system to support its expansion and address challenges such as risk, compliance, and improving the customer experience.
Previously using an advanced solution and investigating other alternatives, Banca Transilvania’s decision to sign a multi-year deal with Oracle FLEXCUBE builds on its existing Oracle relationship, using the Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2. The bank also uses the Oracle Financials Hub.
With 1.5 million active customers, 6 million accounts and more than 500 branches and agencies across Romania, Banca Transilvania is constantly growing. Oracle’s integrated core banking system will support its operation as a seamless enterprise, improving external offerings and internal operations.
Oracle FLEXCUBE will support Banca Transilvania to consolidate its position and amplify its advantage in the increasingly competitive Romanian marketplace through flexible launches with reduced time to market of new, innovative products and services.
The customer-centric functionality inherent in Oracle FLEXCUBE will support Banca Transilvania in managing and sustaining current and future growth, while seeking to meet and exceed the needs of its customers, as the integrated solution provides a holistic view of customer interactions for improved experiences.
Banca Transilvania chose to work with Oracle due to its presence in the region, an implementation and support centre in Athens, more than 30 banking customers in the Balkans alone and more than 100 references in Europe.
Local organization, Trend Import-Export SRL, gold level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), was instrumental in working with Banca Transilvania during its selection of FLEXCUBE, following the previously successful relationship with them during the implementation of the Oracle Exadata Machine X2-2.

Supporting Quotes

Robert Rekkers, CEO of Banca Transilvania, said: “Introducing Oracle FLEXCUBE means for Banca Transilvania, an investment in cutting edge technology, enabling us to continue to take advantage of our current growth, while also expanding through our ability to launch new products and services to our customers quickly. Banca Transilvania was looking for an integrated solution for core banking that was based on new technologies, and that would be capable of sustaining our development for years to come. Oracle FLEXCUBE fit the bill, providing us with a value for money solution and valued expertise alongside it through their partnership with Trend Export-Import SRL.”
Frank Brienzi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Financial Services Global Business Unit, said: “It’s fantastic news that Romania’s Banca Transilvania has chosen to build on an already strong relationship with Oracle, by moving its core banking platform to Oracle FLEXCUBE UBS. As financial institutions across Europe, and the world, face new economic realities and regulatory changes, focuses are increasingly on customer intimacy, competitive differentiation, cost effectiveness and compliance. With the implementation of Oracle FLEXCUBE UBS, Banca Transilvania is taking the lead in overcoming these challenges with their new integrated and flexible banking system. We are proud to be working with a local partner in Romania in Trend Import-Export, enabling Oracle to offer the ongoing support Banca Transilvania needs to stay ahead of the competition, and to offer superior customer service.”
Tudor Iliescu, Manager, Trend Import–Export, continues: “As an OPN Gold Partner, we’re very happy to be so heavily involved in another Banca Transilvania deal. We worked on Banca Transilvania’s highly successful implementation of the Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2. We are looking forward to working with Banca Transilvania and Oracle for many years to come.”

Oracle Delivers New Releases of Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management

Enhancements Help Shippers and Logistics Services Providers Further Streamline Processes, Reduce Costs and Mitigate Risks

Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 10, 2011

News Facts

Demonstrating its commitment to innovation and market leadership in logistics management, Oracle today announced the availability of new releases of Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management.
By introducing a broad set of market driven enhancements, Oracle Transportation Management 6.2 and Oracle Global Trade Management 6.2 further support global transportation and trade compliance processes.
The new releases provide additional transportation and global trade management support through enhanced fleet management, transportation sourcing, transportation business intelligence, transportation planning, small parcel transportation, rail transportation, dock scheduling, product classification and trade control determination.
By delivering an unmatched breadth and depth of transportation and global trade management functionality on a single, unified platform, the new releases help reduce transportation costs, increase operational efficiency, improve customer service, decrease supply chain lead times and mitigate supply chain and trade compliance risk by further standardizing and automating processes.
To further streamline processes, the new release also delivers process integration between Oracle Global Trade Management and Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1

Industry Leading Transportation Management Capabilities

Oracle Transportation Management 6.2 and Oracle Global Trade Management 6.2 enable companies to manage their comprehensive trade compliance and transportation requirements, including fleet, on a global basis within one central platform.

Supporting Quotes

“Shippers and logistics service providers are faced with increasingly complex and volatile global supply chains,” said Dwight Klappich, Research Vice President, Gartner. “To manage that complexity and optimize logistics operations, they need a comprehensive and unified platform that can deliver the extensive capabilities required to support all orders, shipments and inventory. With that kind of breadth and depth of functionality, it is possible to improve customer service while also reducing costs, improving efficiencies and mitigating risk.”
“Managing the different regulatory requirements of importing and exporting countries is an extremely expensive and time consuming process that can ultimately impact the efficiency of the overall supply chain,” said William McNeill, Senior Research Analyst, Gartner. “To streamline that process and ensure compliance with ever changing rules and regulations, shippers and logistics service providers need to be able to automate compliance processes and easily integrate them with both their supply chain and broader enterprise application suites.”
“To align business processes, optimize execution and expand global reach, shippers and logistics services providers need to be able to effectively manage global transportation and trade compliance processes,” said Derek Gittoes, Oracle Vice President, Logistics Product Strategy. “With the new releases of Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management, we are able to optimize those processes by offering an unmatched breadth and depth of transportation and global trade management functionality on a single system.”

Oracle Press Release

Oracle Named a Leader in Enterprise Content Management by Leading Analyst Firm

Redwood Shores, Calif. – Jan. 6, 2011

News Facts

Gartner, Inc. has named Oracle as a Leader in its latest “Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Content Management.” (1)
Gartner’s Magic Quadrant reports position vendors within a particular quadrant based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute.
According to Gartner, “Leaders have the highest combined scores for Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. They are doing well and are prepared for the future with a clearly articulated vision. In the context of ECM, they have strong channel partners, presence in multiple regions, consistent financial performance, broad platform support and good customer support. In addition, they dominate in one or more technology or vertical market. Leaders deliver a suite that addresses market demand for direct delivery of the majority of core components, though these are not necessarily owned by them, tightly integrated, unique or best-of-breed in each area. We place more emphasis this year on demonstrated enterprise deployments; integration with other business applications and content repositories; incorporation of Web 2.0 and XML capabilities; and vertical-process and horizontal-solution focus. Leaders should drive market transformation.”
With Oracle Enterprise Content Management Suite 11g, Oracle offers a comprehensive, integrated and high-performance content management solution that helps organizations increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve content security.

Supporting Quote

“To extend content governance and best practices across the enterprise, organizations need an enterprise content management solution that delivers a broad set of functionality and is tightly integrated with business processes,” said Andy MacMillan, vice president, Product Management, Oracle. “We believe that Oracle’s position as a Leader in this report is recognition of the industry-leading performance, integration and scalability delivered in Oracle Enterprise Content Management Suite 11g.”
